A report of a man being struck in the head with the butt of a handgun yielded two arrests for Kennewick police, but authorities are still searching for the group of men who committed the original assault.

Police were called around 2 p.m. to the Econo Lodge on Highway 395 near its intersection with Vista Way and Clearwater Avenue by Patrick Miller, a news release said. Miller told officers that he was assaulted by three men carrying handguns, causing him to flee a room at the motel but leaving a woman named Lisa Williams inside.

It was unclear whether the suspects were still in the motel room and Williams, who also had a warrant out for her arrest, refused to leave the room. Two hours after police were called, Williams came out of the room and officers determined the suspects in the assault were not in there.

Williams was arrested on her outstanding warrant. Another man, Mario Cortes, was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of false reporting, with police saying he gave false statements about who was in the motel room. Investigators are still trying to identify the three men who committed the assault.

The incident led police to temporarily restrict access to the area around the motel.
