A Prosser man was tackled by police in downtown Pasco early Saturday after he allegedly assaulted two bakery customers and dropped and broke two bottles of stolen tequila as he fled.

Curtis Gene Watkins, 30, went after two customers outside Viera’s Bakery at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Lewis Street, police said. He then ran off toward the pavilions of the farmers market, which was preparing to open for the day, smashing the two tequila bottles he had allegedly stolen from Fiesta Foods earlier in the morning.

Police confronted Watkins and tried to use a Taser on him. The device had no noticeable effect and officers had to wrestle him to the ground.

Watkins was booked into the Franklin County jail on suspicion of misdemeanor assault, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
