A work crew burning out ditches apparently triggered the early season wildfire that scorched 504 acres near Benton City on Wednesday.
The Webber Canyon fire started May 11 and grew to 504 acres to the south of Benton City.
The federal Bureau of Land Management and Benton County fire officials jointly battled the blaze.
The cause remains under investigation and a report is not due for a week.
