Suspect shot following high-speed chase through Milton-Freewater

Three Milton-Freewater police officers are on paid administrative leave after they shot and injured a man late Thursday who fired on law enforcement during a high-speed pursuit.

Officers attempted to stop a 2007 Ford Focus at Grant and Turbyn roads at 7:15 p.m. but the driver, who hasn’t been identified, failed to comply and sped off, according to a news release from the Umatilla County District Attorney.

The driver went north through Milton-Freewater and fired at officers as they pursued him. Police were able to disable the car at Main Street and Seventh Avenue but the the driver continued to fire at officers as he left the car. Police returned fire and struck him in the leg

The suspect was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla with a non-life threatening injury. His current status was not released.

Oregon State Police will lead an investigation of the use of force by the officers.
