Kennewick police warn of IRS phone scam

Kennewick police are warning citizens not to give their personal information out over the phone after reports of IRS scam calls.

The scam involves callers claiming to be from the IRS and demanding money for outstanding taxes. It has been occurring frequently in the area as citizens file taxes.

Kennewick police warned citizens Tuesday in a video to be aware of the scam and report it. The IRS will not ask for money over the phone or for people to put money on pre-paid debit cards.

For more information on how to avoid the popular scam, watch a video by Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin at www.tricityherald.com/video.
