Richland teen without license crashes car on I-82
A 14-year-old Richland girl was cited for negligent driving after she struck a guardrail and crashed on Interstate 82.
The teen, who was not named, was driving east just before 7 p.m. Sunday when she she lost control of a Hyundai Accent about four miles east of Prosser, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The girl was taken to PMH Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, the state patrol said. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The teen told troopers she had been “partying” for a few days and a friend let her borrow the car to return to the Tri-Cities, said Lt. Tom Foster.
Troopers do not believe the girl was impaired while she was driving.
“She had been driving (the car) for a couple days, supposedly,” Foster said. “I think this is someone who has no business being behind the wheel in the first place.”
The girl also was cited for operating a vehicle without a license.
