Boardman coach arrested, accused of giving alcohol to athletes
An assistant coach and educational assistant at a Boardman high school has been arrested on a warrant for driving under the influence after being investigated for supplying alcohol to students.
Matthew Ryan Summers-Johnson, 27, of Boardman, who worked as a Riverside High School educational assistant and sports coach, was arrested Feb. 16 on the outstanding warrant from Clatsop County.
The Morrow County School District suspended Summers-Johnson pending the investigation into the allegations he was supplying alcohol to students, said the sheriff’s office.
On Feb. 9, Boardman police requested help from the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office to investigate reports Summers-Johnson was supplying alcoholic beverages to a group of Riverside High male athletes.
The sheriff’s office learned Summers-Johnson, who was hired by the district last summer, had a warrant for his arrest for a probation violation from a DUI in 2014.
Charges of furnishing alcohol to minors are under review by the Morrow County District Attorney’s Office.
