Richland officer hurt when patrol car hit during traffic stop

A Richland police officer’s patrol car was hit from behind Sunday night as she was stopping a car on Keene Road.

Officer Michelle Goenen was in the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice with the overhead emergency lights activated at 9:26 p.m. when the patrol car was struck by a 1996 Dodge Dakota truck.

The pickup’s driver, Robert E. Fuhrman, 74, of Richland, was eastbound on Keene from Shockley Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Fuhrman was not hurt, but he was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, the report said.

Goenen, 34, was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday that Goenen was treated for her injuries and released several hours later.
