Rape trial for ex-Pasco officer delayed to June 8
The trial for a former Pasco cop accused of sexually assaulting a woman while off-duty has been postponed to June 8.
Richard J. Aguirre’s decision to again waive his right to a speedy trial in Franklin County Superior Court comes 1 1/2 weeks after he agreed to delay his unrelated cases in Spokane for murder and voyeurism.
Aguirre, 51, is charged in Franklin County with third-degree rape and fourth-degree assault.
He was a 27-year veteran of the Pasco Police Department when the allegations surfaced, was placed on leave and later resigned.
It was during the rape investigation that authorities entered Aguirre’s DNA into a national database. The DNA matched a profile taken from the scene of Ruby Doss’ death, a Spokane woman who worked as a prostitute and was found strangled in 1986, according to court documents.
Detectives then found evidence that Aguirre secretly recorded having consensual sex with a man in a Spokane Valley hotel, documents said.
Aguirre is charged in Spokane County Superior Court with first-degree murder, tampering with a witness and voyeurism. Those cases now are set for trial April 4.
He remains in the Spokane County jail on $1 million bail.
