Hermiston man charged with murder of Umatilla County man

A 22-year-old Hermiston man has been charged with murder for allegedly shooting a Umatilla County man.

Joseph A. Mclver, 22, is being held at the Umatilla County jail on $50,000 bail.

Authorities say Mclver shot Thadd J. Nelson, 44, of Meacham. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Portland.

The shooting took place Wednesday about 3:20 a.m. on Old Oregon Trail Road near Meacham.

Details of the shooting or a possible motive have not been released.
