Bail set at $20,000 for man charged in Kennewick extortion case

Bail was set at $20,000 on Monday for a man accused of hacking into a woman’s social media accounts and posting a secretly recorded video of them having sex.

Jose Oliva Jr., 29, pleaded innocent in Benton County Superior Court to one count of second-degree extortion with domestic violence. His trial is March 14.

According to Kennewick police and court documents, the woman ended a relationship with Oliva after learning he had filmed her during a sexual encounter.

Oliva, in an attempt to convince the woman to visit him, then changed the woman’s profile on different accounts to show sexually explicit images from the video, documents said. He allegedly changed her passwords so she was denied access and demanded money to pay his court fines.

Oliva further told the woman he would remove the images if she bought the accounts back from him, court documents said.

The woman gave her phone to detectives, and text messages and screen shots supported her claims, documents said.
