Masked man robs Wapato store at gunpoint

A masked man wearing all black clothing robbed a Wapato convenience store clerk at gunpoint Friday evening.

The robber entered the South Wapato Road market at 6:30 p.m., displayed a silver-colored handgun and ordered the clerk to hand over the money from the store’s cash register, according to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.

The clerk complied, and then the suspect took off on foot, the news release said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with Wapato police and Washington State Patrol troopers, searched the area but could not locate the alleged robber Friday.
