Kennewick police chase down man allegedly under influence of drugs

Kennewick police chased down a man suspected of assault Wednesday afternoon after pulling over his car.

Officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a man who had assaulted two men walking down the street about 2 p.m.

The suspect, later identified as Tyrone Hopstad, was seen getting into a vehicle, police said.

Officers located the vehicle and stopped it. Hopstad then fled the vehicle and ran through citizens’ yards and attempted to make entry into a someone’s home, police said.

Hopstad was apprehended as he continued to attempt to flee, police said. Hopstad reportedly told police that he ate methamphetamine when he fled from the vehicle. Hopstad clearly was suffering from the effects of drug use, police said.

He was cleared by medical staff and booked into the Benton County jail on several charges.
