Teen boy arrested in Kennewick coffee shop robbery

A 17-year-old boy is suspected of taking about $40 at knifepoint from a Kennewick coffee shop’s tip jar.

Kennewick police were called at 1:50 p.m. Sunday about the armed robbery at Roasters Coffee, 2000 N. Columbia Center Blvd.

Officers worked with nearby businesses to track the boy and a female companion to the nearby Kohl’s store, where they changed clothes, said Officer Shirrell Veitenheimer.

The two were detained across the parking lot at the Jack in the Box restaurant.

The boy’s name was not released. He had the knife on him at the time of his arrest, along with the described clothing that he was wearing during the robbery, Veitenheimer said in the news release.
