Portland man arrested after police chase in Kennewick, Richland

A Portland man was arrested after being chased by police through Kennewick, Richland and back, police said.

Todd M. Irving, 32, was booked into Benton County jail Thursday and faces charges for first-degree vehicle theft and felony eluding a police vehicle, as well as having a warrant for an earlier arrest, according to a Kennewick Police news release.

William Garretson reported at 4:07 a.m. Thursday that he heard his truck start up outside his home in the 2600 block of West Sixth Avenue, police said. He went outside and saw the truck driving down the street.

Kennewick officers saw the truck near the intersection of Tenth Avenue and Vancouver Street after starting an immediate search, police said. Police tried to stop the truck, but began chasing it after Irving kept going. A Richland officer used stop sticks to flatten two of the truck’s tires.

Irving continued driving into Richland, where officers there took the lead, police said. He eventually came back into Kennewick and drove through Columbia Park, police said. He then drove onto Highway 240, where he lost control and ended up in a ditch, police said.

Irving was arrested without further incident, police said.
