State patrol: Pasco teen faces DUI charge after cable bridge crash
A Pasco teen faces a driving under the influence charge after an early Thanksgiving morning crash on the cable bridge that injured a Kennewick woman, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Enrique Banda, 19, struck a 2000 Honda Accord, driven by Veronica F. Becerra, 47, with the 2006 Chevrolet HHR sport utility vehicle he was driving, state patrol said. Becerra’s car then struck a guardrail.
Both Banda, of Pasco, and Becerra, of Kennewick, were driving south at 6:54 a.m. Thursday on the bridge between Pasco and Kennewick.
Becerra was taken to Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco, state patrol said. Banda, who was not injured, faces a DUI charge and was taken to Benton County jail, state patrol said.
Becerra’s car was totaled in the collision.
Also early Thursday, a car crashed into a traffic light pole at 3:20 a.m. and caught on fire on Court Street in Pasco near the Highway 395 interchange, according to the Pasco Police Facebook page. A police officer and a passerby pulled the driver from the car.
The driver, who had injuries not considered life-threatening, also is being investigated for DUI, police said.
