A fire that destroyed a Pasco mobile home this week was likely the result of an explosion from a hash oil operation.

The blast Sunday inside the single-wide mobile home on North Elm Avenue sent a man to the hospital with burns. A woman was able to escape without injuries.

The explosion about 9:30 p.m. caused a fire that quickly engulfed the home and took crews about 30 minutes to extinguish, officials said.

Investigators found evidence in the home that the explosion and fire were caused as oil was being made, possibly in the kitchen, said Pasco Fire Chief Bob Gear.

Hash oil is commonly made using highly explosive butane gas. It’s illegal to use the gas in a home to make hash oil.

Police and fire investigators are working together on the case.
