UPDATE: 1 dead, 1 wounded in Royal City shooting

A 49-year-old Quincy man died and another man is in critical condition after a confrontation between employees ended in gunfire at a Royal City business.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened about 8 a.m. Friday when Eduardo Ibarra-Valencia, 30, of Royal City, allegedly opened fire at Callahan Manufacturing in the small town south of Moses Lake.

He was arrested and taken to the Grant County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

The sheriff's office said Joel Rodriguez, 49, died at the scene and Augustin Verduzco Sanchez, 55, of Soap Lake, was flown to a regional hospital.

“This is a tragedy, and I hope the community will join us in sharing our sincerest condolences and support to the families of Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Sanchez,” said Sheriff Tom Jones.
