The Franklin County trial for a former Pasco police officer charged with sexually assaulting a woman has been postponed again.

Richard J. Aguirre’s trial in Franklin County Superior Court is now moved to Feb. 17.

Aguirre was placed on paid administrative leave last November after a Tri-City woman said Aguirre, who was off-duty, sexually assaulted her. His defense attorney asked this week for an independent DNA test.

Aguirre also is being held on unrelated charges in Spokane, including a first-degree murder charge for the 1986 strangling of a prostitute, voyeurism and tampering with a witness.

He resigned from the Pasco force in April after a 27-year career.
