IRS phone scam reported in Tri-Cities

Police are warning citizens not to be fooled by a phone scam in which callers are claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.

Police in Kennewick and Pasco report they have received several complaints about the scam.

The callers are threatening people with arrest if they don’t hand over money owed on back taxes.

A citizen reported that a caller used a number that belongs to the Kennewick Police Department and the name of a department employee, police said.

Police urge anyone who receives a similar call to hang up and contact your local police agency.
