Kennewick great-grandson faces felony charges for alleged abduction
The great-grandson of an elderly Kennewick woman is facing several felony charges for allegedly abducting her and driving her to Oregon in the trunk of her car.
Dyllan Martin, 16, of Kennewick, is being held in Oregon on suspicion of first-degree and second-degree kidnapping, second-degree robbery, unauthorized use of a vehicle and reckless endangerment, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
Martin and two other teens allegedly forced his great-grandmother, Hazel Abel, 86, and her dog into the trunk on Monday.
Billy Underwood, 15, is being held on investigation of the same charges.
The district attorney’s juvenile unit is handling the case of the third teen — a 14-year-old girl. Her name has not been released.
The Kennewick teens are accused of abducting Abel from her home Monday on the 5300 block West Skagit Avenue and driving to Oregon.
Abel reportedly escaped from the trunk of the car while it was parked outside a Walmart store in Wood Village, Ore., just east of Portland. She hurried inside the store and police were called.
The teens were arrested hours later at a nearby gas station. Investigators have not released a possible motive for the abduction.
Multonmah Deputy District Attorney Jeff Auxier said a grand jury is expected to review the cases against Martin and Underwood within the next week to determine if the pair will be indicted, or formally charged.
Benton County prosecutors are working with Multnomah County prosecutors to determine how the case will be prosecuted. If the teens are charged in Benton County, they will have to be extradited back to Washington.
Abel, who was not seriously hurt, spoke with detectives from Benton and Multnomah counties before being released to go home.
