1 dead, 4 arrested in reported gang-related shooting in Walla Walla

One man was killed and another wounded in what police said was a gang-related shooting Saturday night outside a Walla Walla tavern.

Four suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting, which was reported about 11:26 p.m. in the parking lot of the Green Lantern Tavern, 1606 E. Isaacs Ave.

Walla Walla Police Sgt. Mike Moses said that officers who arrived on the scene found the two shooting victims in the back parking lot. Both were taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center.

Moses identified the dead man as Juan P. Martinez, 23, of Walla Walla. County Coroner Richard Greenwood said an autopsy for Martinez has been scheduled for today.

The wounded man was identified as Andres Solis, 23, of Walla Walla. Moses said he was in stable condition.

Moses said officers investigating the shooting later arrested the four suspects “some in residences and some on the streets.”

No firearms have been recovered, and the investigation was continuing, Moses said.

The shooting appears to have stemmed from a chance meeting inside the tavern between the victims and the suspects, Moses said.

The four arrested were affiliated with a known Walla Walla gang, “and in the past, one of the victims had been a prior trial witness related” to the gang, Moses said.

The suspects, all of Walla Walla, were identified by Moses as Emmanuel Pantaleon, 24; Bizarit Carmona-Hernandez, 23; Roberto Arroyo, 25 and Antonio Carmona-Hernandez, 21. All were arrested for investigation of complicity with first-degree murder, complicity with first-degree assault and complicity with witness intimidation.

Moses said Bizarit and Antonio Carmona-Hernandez are brothers.

Although the bookings roster for the county jail listed Bizarit and Antonio Carmona-Hernandez, it did not have listings for the remaining two suspects Sunday afternoon.

A person called at the Green Lantern and declined to be identified said the establishment was closed today.
