Candlelight vigil Oct. 22 in Richland for domestic violence victims, survivors

A candlelight vigil is planned Oct. 22 to remember people killed by domestic violence and to honor survivors in the community.

The vigil starts at 6:15 p.m. in Howard Amon Park, behind the Richland Community Center. It is organized by Domestic Violence Services of Benton & Franklin Counties, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Participants will see 40 life-size silhouettes representing the Tri-City’s domestic violence murder victims back to 1998. More than 900 luminaries also will be lit for people served by the Tri-City organization each year.

Family and friends are invited to memorialize the silhouette of their loved one at 5 p.m., which will be followed by music and blessing of the Dia de los Muertos altar at 5:30 p.m. before the vigil.
