Kennewick police need help finding car in Oct. 4 hit-and-run involving bicyclist
Kennewick police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the car that hit a bicyclist Oct. 4 on Clearwater Avenue.
A man was riding east on Clearwater, near Huntington Street, when he was hit from behind by a white sedan.
He was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The bicyclist had the appropriate lighting and was obeying all traffic laws when the hit-and-run happened just after midnight, said Cpl. Todd Dronen.
Officers collected surveillance footage from nearby businesses, however the specific car is difficult to identify because it was dark at the time of the collision, Dronen said in a news release.
Police confirmed it is a white sedan, possibly an Acura. The car has large taillights and maybe tinted windows, but no other special features.
Dronen says there will be damage to the car’s front bumper area and the passenger side fender. The damage will include scrapes, scratches and paint and rubber left behind from the bicycle.
The bicycle — the victim’s only form of transportation — sustained significant damage, police said.
The Kennewick Police Department’s Community Care Fund was used to repair the bicycle at a Tri-City bike shop.
People with information on the car or the hit-and-run are asked to call Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers at 509-586-8477 or 800-222-8477, or visit www.tricitiescrimestoppers.org.
