Pickup runs red lights, hits SUV in Kennewick intersection
A Pasco woman was cited for second-degree negligent driving Sunday morning after she failed to stop at a red light and collided with an SUV in Kennewick.
Nikole N. Vargas, 21, reportedly caused the 8 a.m. crash on Highway 395 at 27th Avenue.
The Washington State Patrol said Vargas’ 2002 Ford Ranger was southbound on the highway when she did not stop for the red light at the intersection.
The truck smashed into a 2008 GMC Yukon driven by Ryan J. Pawlak. The 31-year-old Kennewick man had been traveling east on 27th.
Pawlak suffered minor injury and refused medical aid at the scene, the state patrol said.
Vargas and her passengers — Alyssa M. Martinez, 16, and Victoria M. Vargas, 19, both of Pasco — were treated at Trios Health in Kennewick.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, while the two passengers were not, troopers said.
