Kennewick Fire Chief Vince Beasley spoke at a ground-breaking ceremony Tuesday for the new station 5 at 6016 W. 10th Avenue at Kellogg Street.

City officials have said that a fire station at this location will improve response times in southwest Kennewick, as well as provide good backup for other stations.

The location of the new station didn’t please some Kennewick residents who lived nearby as they expressed concerns about the station being located in a residential area and noise and traffic increasing.
