Pasco police are searching for a suspect after a man reportedly in his 20s died of at least one gunshot wound near the cable bridge Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the area after several witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 6:45 p.m., said Capt. Ken Roske.

Police found the victim, who hasn’t been identified, in the street near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and River Street, just east of the Pasco end of the bridge.

Medics were called to the area to treat the victim but he died soon after he was found, Roske said.

Canine units were on the scene to assist with the investigation. There was an initial report of a man with a dark complexion leaving the area, but Roske said the description was unconfirmed.

Kennewick police assisted with patrolling the area, including stationing cars along the bike path along the river.

Police spoke with a witness who was in the area at the time of the shooting, Roske said.

That individual was not in custody and was not considered a suspect or a person of interest.

Evidence crews and detectives were expected to be at the scene through the night, Roske said.
