Inmate hangs himself in Franklin County jail

A 41-year-old Franklin County jail inmate died Sunday evening, Sheriff Jim Raymond said.

The man was found hanging around 5 p.m. in his cell, Raymond said. Staff attempted life-saving measures and emergency crews were called, but he couldn’t be revived.

The Special Investigation Unit was called to review the circumstances surrounding the death. Raymond said the man’s name hasn’t been released because his family has not been notified.

The man was booked into the jail Friday on multiple outstanding warrants and possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, Raymond said.
