Kennewick man arrested after Nevada security site gate crash

A sheriff’s official in Nevada says a 27-year-old Kennewick man faces misdemeanor charges after crashing a pickup truck through a locked gate at the former U.S. national nuclear proving ground north of Las Vegas.

Nye County sheriff’s Sgt. David Boruchowitz said Rylan Joel Wallette was arrested at a gate to the Nevada National Security Site after the crash a little before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Boruchowitz says Wallette had marijuana paraphernalia in the pickup, which had front-end damage consistent with a crash.

Wallette was booked at the county jail in Pahrump pending a court appearance on trespassing, property destruction and drug paraphernalia charges.

The Security Site is a 1,360-square-mile secure federal reservation. It used to be known as the Nevada Test Site.
