1 person hurt in machete attack and robbery at Columbia Park

A felon was arrested in Columbia Park after allegedly attacking another person with a machete, according to reports.

Kennewick police were called to the Edison Street boat launch about 1 p.m. after reports of a stabbing, according to dispatch reports. One person was discovered with cuts to their back and face.

A portion of Columbia Park on the border between Kennewick and Richland was shut down while police searched for the suspect, Emmanuel Mpangu, 32.

Officers shut down entrances to the park at Edison Street and Highway 240 and Columbia Park Trail near the Reach Museum.

A Kennewick police dog was used to help find Mpangu, who was hidden in some brush nearby.

Mpangu was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and felony harassment.
