Police and federal drug agents force open door of a home near Richland school
At least four people were detained and several guns seized when police served a warrant near a Richland school on Wednesday morning.
The Tri-City Metro Drug Task Force surrounded a home on the 1700 block of Gaillard Place about 10 a.m., Richland police officials confirmed.
When the residents didn’t respond to their knocks and calls, the officers broke in the door to serve the narcotics-related warrant, said witnesses.
Kennewick and Richland officers along with Benton County deputies and Drug Enforcement Administration agents were at the scene. Police dogs were used as well.
At least four people were seen being taken into custody, but it’s unclear how many were arrested. A rifle and other items were taken out of the home.
The house is about a half mile from Jefferson Elementary School.
Richland police referred questions to Metro Drug Task Force officials, who were not immediately available.
The Metro task force includes officers from local and county law enforcement departments around the Tri-Cities that teams up with federal agencies, such as the DEA, to focus on disrupting mid-to-upper-level drug trafficking organizations.
