Shots fired near Kennewick mall on busy Friday 13th evening for police

Kennewick police responded to multiple calls of shots heard fired near Columbia Center mall and an unrelated head-on collision on North Columbia Center Boulevard the evening of Friday the 13th.

At around 5:30 p.m. gunshots were heard by people near the mall. Four suspects, whom a police report described as being “younger,” were seen running from the area into a nearby neighborhood.

Evidence of the shooting was found at the railroad tracks to the north of the mall parking lot, according to Kennewick police.

Police traced the suspects to a home in the 8900 block of West Canyon Place, where they stopped a car with five people leaving the house, according to Kennewick police.

Patrick Daniel Calvey, 46, was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, second-degree driving with a suspended license and failure to comply, according to jail records

In addition, Emiliano Barragan, 18, was arrested on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol, a misdemeanor, and taken to the Benton County jail, according to police.

A third adult and two juveniles were released, pending the outcome of the investigation, according to police.

The West Canyon Place house was searched and evidence suspected to be linked to the gunshots was found, according to Kennewick police. Further information about the evidence was not released by police on the weekend.

Kennewick police expect to forward charges involving a weapon to the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office after further investigation, according to a police report.

Columbia Center Blvd. crash

About 30 minutes after police began investigating the shooting, a head-on crash was reported at North Columbia Center Boulevard and West Clearwater Avenue.

Jose Juan Silva, 34, the driver of one of the vehicles, was intoxicated and uncooperative, according to Kennewick police.

After he allegedly struggled with a police officer who tried to detain him, he was placed in a WRAP restraint system, according to police. The officer was not injured.

Silva was taken to the Benton County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, third-degree assault of a law enforcement official, resisting arrest, obstructing law enforcement, failure to obey a police officer and third-degree driving with a suspended license, according to police.
