Drowsy driver crashes through highway barrier into pond near Pasco

A drowsy driver lost control of her car in Highway 12 early Monday and ended up in a pond south of Burbank.

The woman was heading south on the highway before 6 a.m. when she dozed off, Washington State Patrol Trooper Daniel Mosqueda told the Tri-City Herald.

Her sedan crashed through the guardrail at Casey Pond and ended up in the water. Photos from the scene show the water nearly reached the bottom of the windows before the car stopped sinking.

The driver was rescued from the car and not hurt, according to a Washington State Patrol Instagram post.

“Drowsy driving is impaired driving, and it’s up to you to make sure you’re safe to drive,” the state patrol said in its post.
