81-year-old Prosser man killed in crash on foggy rural highway
An 81-year-old Prosser man is dead after his pickup was hit on a foggy highway in rural Benton County.
Jack F. Haworth was heading north on Highway 221 in a Toyota Tacoma about 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, the Washington State Patrol. The rural two-lane highway stretches between the rural communities of Paterson and Prosser.
His truck was struck from behind by a Ford Expedition heading in the same direction, pushing the Tacoma off the highway, causing it to flip, the state patrol said.
Haworth, who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time, was killed in the crash.
The Expedition driver, Jeremy A Russell, 55, of Sunnyside, was hurt, but wasn’t taken to the hospital, the Washington State Patrol said.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash and whether charges will be filed.
Trooper Carlos Mata said the area was foggy Thursday morning, and he asked drivers to turn on their headlights.
