A 24-year-old man remains hospitalized Wednesday after being shot in the chest Tuesday night during a family dispute at a Kennewick home.

The man’s brother, Brian M. Hernandez-Ortiz, 22, was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection with the shooting on Volland Street in the Canyon Lakes development.

Details on what happened were not immediately available, but Merkl said officers were told someone had threatened another family member.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect, Hernandez-Ortiz, lying prone on the front lawn prepared to be arrested, Merkl said.

His brother, whose name was not released, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and rushed to a local hospital. His current condition was not immediately available.
