21-year-old arrested for shooting brother in the chest in Kennewick
A 24-year-old man remains hospitalized Wednesday after being shot in the chest Tuesday night during a family dispute at a Kennewick home.
The man’s brother, Brian M. Hernandez-Ortiz, 22, was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection with the shooting on Volland Street in the Canyon Lakes development.
Kennewick police were called to 3400 S. Volland St. about 9:50 p.m. after reports of a shooting, Commander Isaac Merkl told the Tri-City Herald.
Details on what happened were not immediately available, but Merkl said officers were told someone had threatened another family member.
When officers arrived, they found the suspect, Hernandez-Ortiz, lying prone on the front lawn prepared to be arrested, Merkl said.
His brother, whose name was not released, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and rushed to a local hospital. His current condition was not immediately available.
