Convicted kidnapper allegedly pulled gun while shoplifting at Tri-Cities WinCo
A convicted kidnapper suspected of shoplifting allegedly threatened Kennewick WinCo security officers with a gun.
Security officers allegedly spotted Dyllan K. Martin, 26, taking items and stopped him about 6 p.m. Sunday before he could leave, Kennewick police Officer Ashley Marshall told the Tri-City Herald.
As they were patting him down, Martin allegedly grabbed a gun that he was hiding.
Security officers allegedly struggled with Martin over the weapon, and he threatened to kill the officers, Marshall said.
The security was able to get the gun away, and held him at the store until police arrived. He was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, making death threats and illegally having a gun.
He is being held in lieu of $250,000. He lives in Vancouver, so he’s being allowed to travel throughout the state.
Martin was previously sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison after he helped kidnap his great-grandmother in 2015.
Martin and another teen tied up the 87-year-old woman, gagged her and put her into the trunk of her 2001 Dodge Neon before driving six hours into Oregon. She escaped when they stopped at a Walmart for food and supplies.
He was released from prison on July 9, 2025.
