Update: WSP seeking witnesses after man dies in jump from Richland overpass

Investigators are searching for anyone who may have seen a Richland man jump to his death from an Interstate 182 on Monday.

The Washington State Patrol said his death is being investigated as a suspected suicide and wants to talk with witnesses to what happened.

The 47-year-old was on the Keene Road overpass over I-182 when he jumped onto the westbound lanes about 5:35 p.m., said a memo from the WSP.

An autopsy is planned for Wednesday, Coroner Bill Leach told the Tri-City Herald.

The man’s name was not released pending notifying his family in Arizona. Officials initially believed he was from Arizona but later confirmed he lived in Richland.

The investigation delayed traffic for two hours on I-182 near Queensgate Drive.

The Washington State Patrol is continuing to look for people who saw the man on Keene Road or any vehicles stopped on Interstate 182 before police arrived. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective James Stairet at 509-378-2753 or email James.Stairet@wsp.wa.gov.

Anyone in crisis can reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting to 988.
