Two men were killed Saturday afternoon when their pickup was hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train in the Yakima Valley.

Both died at the scene when they didn’t stop at a railroad crossing in Wapato about 3:45 p.m., said the Washington State Patrol.

A 29-year-old man was driving the 1989 Ford Ranger with a 32-year-old passenger. They were headed southwest on North Wapato Avenue at Donald Road when they pulled into the path of the southbound train, said WSP.

Their names were not immediately released pending notification of their families.
