2 men shot fleeing in a car from troubled Richland apartment complex

Two people were left seriously hurt in Richland after shots were fired at a fleeing car following a fight.

A witness reported hearing four gunshots near the 300 block of Van Giesen Street about 12:05 a.m. Sunday, according to dispatch reports. The caller said they happened near the Columbia Park Apartments.

The troubled apartment complex has been the scene of multiple shootings in recent years.

Minutes later, two young men showed up at Kadlec Regional Medical Center. One was wounded in the chest and the other in the stomach, according to dispatch reports.

Investigators believe the shooting started with an argument in a parking lot. As the men were driving away, someone fired at them, according to a post from the Richland police Facebook page.

Police said the injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

The department’s street crimes detectives are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency dispatch number at 509-628-0333 or go to richlandwa.gov/policetips.
