Update: Woman killed in hit-and-run identified. Police searching for driver
A Richland woman has been identified as the pedestrian killed after she was hit by two vehicles on West Canal Drive in Kennewick early Saturday.
The car that hit her first did not stop or call 911. Police are still searching for the driver.
That vehicle, which was traveling east, hit Angelica Morfin-Barajas, 31, of Richland, as she walked across Canal Drive near North Lyle Street several blocks east of the Zintel Creek Golf Course.
She was lying in the street when another car, this one traveling west on Canal Drive, ran over her about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, according to a Kennewick Police Department report.
A person who saw the woman hit the second time called police, and the driver of that vehicle stopped and cooperated with investigators
Police officers and Kennewick Fire Department workers attempted to save her life, but she died before she could be taken to a hospital.
Police believe the first vehicle to hit her was a red or maroon SUV or truck.
The hit-and-run vehicle likely has damage to the front left side and grill area, including a shattered front left headlight and turn signal lens, according to police.
Police are asking residents on Canal Drive to review any camera footage from between 12 and 12:30 a.m. Saturday that may have caught an image of the first vehicle to hit the woman who died.
Anyone with information is asked to call 509-628-0333.
