Juvenile arrested after social media threats of Tri-Cities school violence
A Kennewick-area juvenile has been arrested after a weekend investigation into threats of violence related to Kamiakin High School, the Kennewick Police Department announced Sunday afternoon.
Friday night a Kennewick patrol sergeant was contacted about information received by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Florida passed onto the FBI office in Seattle.
Kennewick detectives, working with the FBI, identified a suspect on Saturday.
Saturday evening Kennewick police officers and detectives, in partnership with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, arrested the suspect at their parent’s home.
A search warrant was used to find and seize evidentce at the home, according to Kennewick police.
The family of the suspect was cooperative and worked with law enforcement in the investigation, according to police.
The juvenile, whose name has not been released, was booked into the Benton Franklin Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of attempted first- and second-degree assault, felony harassment and threats to bomb or injure property.
The threats made were not seen by a large audience, but one person who saw them notified law enforcement, police said.
“We are grateful the initial reporting party followed the mantra, ‘See something, say something,’” Kennewick police said. “It was imperative that the citizen report the threat in light of keeping our schools safe and allowing law enforcement to investigate.”
No additional information was available Sunday.
