Sore loser in Pasco parking lot fistfight suspected of attempted murder with SUV
A 34-year-old Kennewick man is facing attempted murder charges after he lost a fistfight and wouldn’t let it go, say police.
Rodney J. Green is being held in lieu of $1 million bail on suspicion of chasing and trying to kill another man in his Mercedes SUV.
The victim suffered serious injuries, including a broken pelvis, and had to be flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, court documents said.
The confrontation reportedly started in a Seventh Avenue parking lot about 4 a.m. Thursday when the victim and several others were gathered around Green’s SUV, court documents said.
The argument turned into a fistfight, which was captured on security camera footage at Griggs Department Store and by a witness in the area.
Green was knocked down, got up and climbed into his Mercedes, allegedly speeding toward the victim and another man.
The victim ran and tried hiding behind a sign. The Mercedes drove around and nearly caught the two men. The SUV made a U-turn and headed toward the victim again, said investigators.
The victim tried throwing some rocks at the SUV, but Green followed him across Lewis Street, said court documents.
Green allegedly hit the man with his car in another parking lot and pinned him against a tow truck. Then, he got out and walked away toward the cable bridge.
The victim was still pinned when police arrived.
A Pasco officer recognized the SUV and told a detective that Green was hanging around it earlier. The security footage and the witness confirmed it, said court documents.
Kennewick police found Green on the Kennewick side of the bridge with a lump on his forehead and a cut to the top of his head.
He was treated at Lourdes Medical Center and taken to the Franklin County Jail.
