A 29-year-old is in the Benton County jail after being arrested for shooting at an apartment building in Kennewick in April.

Javier J. Ruiz-Cordova of Kennewick and another man allegedly opened fire at the H building at the Heatherstone Apartments about 9 p.m. on April 6, said court documents.

He was arrested on April 30 on suspicion of drive-by shooting and bail is set at $500,000.

Investigators said two men allegedly fired a shotgun and a 9mm handgun at the complex on 10th Avenue and, while no one was hurt, there were several bullet holes in the building and “lots of property damage.”

Security camera video showed one man fire five shots at the apartments, court documents said. The men then walked to a black Dodge Charger.

Ruiz-Cordova was allegedly holding the shotgun and got into the driver’s side.

A witness reported hearing a gun being fired and saw something fly out of the Charger as it sped away. A shotgun shell was later found at the spot.

The Charger was found parked east of Seventh Place and South Olympia Street. And witnesses reported seeing two men run from the car, court documents said.

The Charger was registered to Ruiz-Cordova and police found a shotgun shell in the center console and a cellphone with photos of Ruiz-Cordova holding the gun.

Police searched Ruiz-Cordova’s bedroomon April 30 and found 9mm shells matching the ones used in the shooting, court documents said.

Investigators are trying to determine if Ruiz-Cordova is also connected to another drive-by shooting on April 2.
