A 59-year-old Wapato man is accused of speeding away from a Prosser police officer, then crashing into a business early Wednesday.

A Prosser police officer said he spotted Eliceo Gonzalez Gonzalez speeding on the 100 block of Merlot Drive but when he signaled him to pull over, Gonzalez Gonzalez allegedly drove east on Merlot Drive, Prosser police said in a Facebook post.

But five blocks later, the pickup slammed into the metal gate of the Yellow Rose Nursery, extensively damaging the gate and the truck, said police.

Gonzalez Gonzalez refused to follow commands from the officer and again tried to drive away, but his truck was stuck. As more officers arrived, he surrendered, police said.

He was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of attempting to elude and DUI. Police also issued him citations for speeding, driving without a license and having no insurance.
