An Oregon woman is believed to have been intoxicated when she flipped her SUV on Highway 397 near Kennewick and sent a 5-year-old to the hospital.

Sarah G. Peterson, 43, of Enterprise, Ore., was heading south on the highway about 4:15 p.m. Monday when she lost control of her Toyota 4Runner near the intersection with Interstate 82, Washington State Patrol said in a traffic memo.

The SUV flipped and landed in a field.

Peterson and a 5-year-old girl, also from Enterprise, Ore., were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, the state patrol reported.

Their condition was not immediately available.

Investigators believe Peterson was impaired at the time of the crash, according to Washington State Patrol Lt. Dustin Drout.

“At this time our detectives are still investigating to determine what the final charges will be,” Drout said.
