Police catch man accused of attacking his Kennewick girlfriend with a box cutter
A 30-year-old man is behind bars three days after he allegedly slashed his girlfriend several times with a box cutter.
Kennewick police tracked Joel Alcocer-Olbea to a home on the 300 block of 27th Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives, with the help of the Tri-City Regional SWAT team, surrounded the home and tried to contact Alcocer-Olbea about 2:45 p.m. When he refused to come to the door, officers used a flash-bang device to get him to come out, Commander Isaac Merkl told the Tri-City Herald.
A minute after it was deployed, Alcocer-Olbea surrendered, Merkl said.
He was booked into Benton County jail on suspicion for first-degree assault and violating a court order.
Police have been searching for Alcocer-Olbea since Saturday when an argument between he and his girlfriend turned violent on the 1300 block of 10th Avenue.
A judge previously ordered Alcocer-Olbea to stay away from the woman, a Kennewick Facebook post said. He violated the order by going to the home.
He allegedly cut his girlfriend’s face, neck, stomach and arms before a teen who lived there got between them and called 911. The teen was also hurt.
The relationship between the teen and the woman and Alcocer-Olbea is not clear.
Alcocer-Olbea fled before police arrived, and detectives had been searching for him.
