Truck driver in a hurry to beat red light hits bicyclist at Kennewick intersection
Kennewick police are looking for a red pickup truck that hit a 63-year-old bicyclist on 10th Avenue on Monday afternoon.
The bicyclist was crossing Olympia Street about 2:45 p.m. when a red 1990s GMC or Chevy pickup going south came up the hill and hit him, Officer Peyton Hannah told the Tri-City Herald.
It appeared that the driver was concerned about beating the traffic light and continued on Olympia Street, Hannah said.
The bicyclist was treated at Trios Southridge Hospital for scrapes on his face.
Investigators shared a picture of the truck on social media. The image was taken from city traffic cameras.
Police don’t have any details about the truck’s driver. They are asking anyone with information about the truck, the crash or the other driver to call the non-emergency dispatch number at 509-628-0333.
This is the second hit-and-run police have asked for help for in the past week. A pedestrian was hurt on George Washington Way in Richland on Aug. 15, after being hit by a pickup.
Police have reported that the suspect and truck have been identified as of Tuesday. But no other information has been released.
