A 12-year-old Enterprise Middle School student was hit by a car crossing Paradise Way Thursday morning.

The student was on his way to class about 8 a.m. as he made his way across the crosswalk near Blue Heron Boulevard, according to police reports and West Richland Police Commander Mitchell Coates.

A woman driving a minivan hit the boy.

He was rushed to Kadlec Regional Medical Center for treatment for a broken leg. The Richland School District sent a text message to parents in the area that said the child is stable.

Coates said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. There is no determination of fault.

This isn’t the first time in recent years that a student has been hurt trying to cross Paradise Way.

A 12-year-old girl was skateboarding with a friend in January 2020 when they crossed Paradise Way at Eagle Street. She was in the crosswalk when she hit a car.

The collision sent her to Harborview Medical Center.
