A 27-year-old man is dead after he lost control of his pickup on an Interstate 82 on-ramp near Richland.

Investigators believe Austin M. Babcock of Newberg, Ore., was exiting Interstate 182 from the Richland area headed toward Oregon when he crashed on the I-82 on-ramp.

Trooper Sarah Clasen told the Tri-City Herald that it’s unclear if he crashed late Thursday or early Friday.

Another driver spotted the pickup at 7:34 a.m. and called 911.

The pickup had gone off the side of the ramp and rolled. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck. He was dead when officers arrived and it was clear the crash happened much earlier.

Troopers believe speed was a factor in him losing control.

Officials were working Friday on notifying the man’s family before releasing his name.
