Update: Driver killed in Highway 395 crash near Pasco. It’s the 2nd fatal wreck this week
A 23-year-old Pasco man is dead after a semi-truck and pickup collided at the intersection of Vineyard Drive and Highway 395 on Thursday afternoon.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash that happened about 1:15 p.m. two miles north of the Pasco city limits, Trooper Chris Thorson told the the Tri-City Herald.
The crash left the Luis Acosta Hernandez trapped inside his pickup truck, according to dispatch reports. He died at the scene.
According to the initial crash report Hernandez was driving westbound on Vineyard Drive and failed to yield as he entered Highway 395. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
Jose Navarro, 35, of Umatilla, was driving northbound on 395 when Hernandez entered the intersection. He was taken to Lourdes Medical Center with injuries. The cause of the crash was attributed to Hernandez failing to yield. No drugs or alcohol were involved.
One lane of northbound traffic on the divided highway was blocked for a time while troopers investigated.
This was the second deadly crash on Highway 395 this week. The first was Sunday about three miles north of Thursday’s collision.
A mother and her daughter were killed in a crash at the corner of the highway and Crestloch Drive in front of the Country Mercantile store.
